This piece accompanies the “Dawn” Sandhills piece, and was taken just after arriving at the photo blind in the late afternoon/early evening when the sun was low. The snowy sky made for a beautiful background to the frozen tree limbs with ice formations. For the first hour, the only bird I saw near the blind was a sweet little sandpiper. He was walking in the shallow water and on river sand formations in front of us. I could hear other birds in the trees surrounding the blind, but as we were not permitted to leave the blind for sixteen hours, I was unable to photograph them. Finally, we got plenty of fly-by’s from the Sandhill Cranes just before it became too dark. So beautiful the whole experience was!
