All photos in this piece were taken while on a fall trip through southwest Colorado, to include Ouray, Silverton, Mesa Verde and Alamosa. Marmots are one of my favorite mountain dwellers because they seem so bossy and not likely to take a lot of crap from anybody. Due to the streams I saw (running with a toxic-looking orange color due to old mining leakage), my imagination decided to make my mind and heart feel better by envisioning the marmots taking over the mountain. The toxic streams then became a magical maker of beautiful fall leaves, taken up to the trees by birds and chipmunks, as commanded by the marmots while sitting atop the mountains being advised by the milky way.
It could happen.
